New Recommendations!

Ready for another great TV recommendation?

I’m thinking I might make this a regular, weekly post. Because as sad as it sounds, I’ve watched a lot of TV.

Into the new show…

Do you like mysteries? Crime shows? All things from the UK?

Try Shetland.

It’s an interesting little murder mystery (one crime can last for more than one episode) and it’s set in the island community of Shetland, obviously. It’s about a man, DI Jimmy Perez, solving various crimes with his team. It stars Douglas Henshall, Alison O’Donnell and Steven Robertson. You may need subtitles until you adjust to their accent, but it doesn’t take anything away from the show.

It’s about a DI Perez (Henshall), who is working and in a way, a single parent. He’s not the biological father of his daughter, but she calls him “Dad” and lives with him while calling her biological father by his first name. It’s an interesting dynamic that I’ve not seen on any other show.

The stories are told in two episodes each. They’re based off books written by Ann Cleeves.

I wouldn’t say it’s fast paced, but it isn’t slow. It’s full of twists and turns and learning a lot about each character. Now, I’ve tried to read her books before and I couldn’t because they were too slow for me. But maybe not for you. They’re pretty well-known books in English crime writing circles, or so I’ve gathered.

Anyway, that’s my story. Give it a shot. Let me know what you think!

Edit: Trigger warning, in season 3 there is a rape. It’s not really discussed and you don’t see anything, but it could still be upsetting.
